RALEIGH – A Fayetteville businessman was arrested Monday on a felony tax charge filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Heath Curtis Vandevender, 48, of 932 Westland Ridge Road, Fayetteville, was charged on February 13, 2017 with one count of Embezzlement of State Property.
Arrest warrants allege that Heath Curtis Vandevender, Vice-President of Truth Outreach Center, Inc. (Trinity Community Services), located in Fayetteville, aided and abetted the corporation to embezzle, misapply, and convert to its own use $388,422.68 in North Carolina Withholding Tax during the period January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2015. During this period of time, Vandevender was the responsible person of Truth Outreach Center, Inc. and was under a duty to collect, hold in trust and remit North Carolina Withholding Taxes to the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Vandevender appeared before a Wake County magistrate and was placed under a $50,000 secured bond. A first appearance was scheduled for February 14, 2017 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
The charges against Vandevender resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
