The NCDOR is now processing 2025 Individual Income Tax returns. Taxpayers will begin receiving refunds through the mail and direct deposit the week of March 9.

Mecklenburg County businessman Prakash Mehta, 72, of Waxhaw, was arrested today on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. He was charged with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

Manufacturers must submit a certification renewal application, including all required documents, and electronically remit a renewal fee of $500, for a vapor product or consumable product to remain in the N.C. Department of Revenue’s directory. If a manufacturer fails to timely recertify its products, the products are subject to removal from the directory.

Taxpayers must renew their tobacco products license on or before June 30, 2026, to maintain the ability to receive, store, or possess non-excise-tax-paid products.

On Monday, Jan. 26, the N.C. Department of Revenue officially opened the 2026 individual income tax filing season and begins accepting 2025 returns. Taxpayers who file state returns electronically will receive acknowledgements.

Onslow County businessman Jimmy John Brinkley, 49, of Swansboro, was arrested on felony tax charges filed by the N.C. Department of Revenue. He was charged with three counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

The NCDOR began accepting 2025 income tax returns for Corporate Income and Franchise and Partnership on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

The N.C. Department of Revenue's taxpayer assistance service center in Raleigh will move to a new office located at 2920 Highwoods Boulevard, Suite 300, during the week of Nov. 17 – 21. The current office at 4701 Atlantic Avenue will remain open until the new location is ready for the move. The service center will close on Friday, Nov. 14, for the move and reopen at the new location on Monday, Dec. 1.
