Direct File was a free, secure IRS tool available for the 2025 filing season that allowed eligible North Carolina taxpayers to file federal and state taxes online. The program was suspended by the IRS and will not be available for the 2026 filing season.

Taxpayers who used Direct File in 2025 can access a summary of their federal return online via their IRS account. North Carolina state returns can be accessed through FileYourStateTaxes.
