A Durham tax preparer was arrested Monday on felony and misdemeanor tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Akeisha Shariah Judd, 36, of 905 Davinci Street, Durham, was charged on October 15, 2018 with three counts of Attempt to Evade or Defeat Tax, and two counts of Willful Failure to File Return, Supply Information, or Pay Tax.
Arrest warrants allege that Judd filed a false and fraudulent 2013, 2014, and 2015 North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return with the North Carolina Department of Revenue understating her taxable income, all in an attempt to evade or defeat the North Carolina Individual Income Tax. Additional arrest warrants allege that Judd willfully failed to file North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns for the tax years 2016 and 2017. Judd is the owner of Tax Genie, LLC, located at 3300 Guess Road, Suite 4, Durham.
Judd appeared before a Wake County magistrate and was placed under a $10,000.00 bond. A first appearance is scheduled for October 16, 2018 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
The charges against Judd resulted from an investigation by special agents with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
