High Point Man Sentenced in Tax Case

RALEIGH – A High Point resident pleaded guilty Monday in Wake County District Court to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

James M. Puckett, 47, of 662 Barney Rd., High Point, NC, pleaded guilty on April 21, 2014 to Willful Failure to File Return, Supply Information, or Pay Tax.

District Court Judge Louis B. Meyer III sentenced Puckett to a 45-day prison term. The sentence was suspended and Puckett was placed on supervised probation for 18 months. Puckett was ordered to pay restitution of $41,101.74, pay a $500 fine, and perform 30 hours of community service within 180 days.

Information presented in court showed that Puckett was required to file North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns for tax years 2009, 2010 and 2011, but willfully failed to file the returns. James M. Puckett is employed by J. Michael Puckett, DDS, PA.

The charges against Puckett resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
