Local Government Division

The Local Government Division provides support and services to the counties and municipalities of North Carolina as well as taxpayers concerning taxes collected locally by the counties and municipalities.

Property Tax

The Property Tax Section provides information pertinent to real and personal property taxation including, Public Service Companies-State Assessment Properties, Property Tax Commission Appeals, the Present-Use Value Program, Exemption and Exclusion Forms, Business Personal Property Listing Forms, Publications and more.

Distribution Unit

The Distribution Unit distributes monies to counties, municipalities and transfers monies to state agencies. They audit E-585 claimants for governmental/non-profits and setoff monies to state and local agencies from taxpayer’s individual income tax refund.

Information Unit

The Information Unit is the primary contact point for County Certification Forms, Municipal Certification Forms, Public, Educational, and Governmental Channel Certifications, Publications of County and Municipal Reports and Statistics, and much more.
