RALEIGH – A Harnett County woman pleaded guilty Wednesday in Wake County District Court to felony charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Gloria Ann Moore, 52, of 1405 S. 4th St., Lillington, pleaded guilty on September 24, 2014 to one count of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and one count of Uttering a Forged Instrument.
District Court Judge Margaret Eagles sentenced Moore to a six-month minimum, eight-month maximum prison term. The sentence was suspended and she was placed on supervised probation for 48 months. She was ordered to pay restitution of $571.50, pay a fine of $500.00, and complete 20 hours of community service.
Information presented in court showed that Moore filed a false North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return for the tax year 2009 representing that she was employed by a local business and had North Carolina income taxes withheld from her wages, when in fact she was not employed by the business and did not have the taxes withheld by the company. The return deceived the Department of Revenue and caused the state to give her credit for payment of individual income tax withholdings that she was not entitled to receive. Moore’s Uttering Forged Instrument charge resulted from a false 2009 Wage and Tax Statement.
The charges against Moore resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
