RALEIGH – A Harnett County man pleaded guilty Wednesday in Wake County District Court to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
David K. Williams, 30, of 3252 Bunnlevel Erwin Road, Erwin, pleaded guilty on May 7, 2014 to three counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and three counts of Uttering a Forged Instrument.
District Court Judge Keith Gregory sentenced Williams to a six-month minimum, eight-month maximum prison term. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on supervised probation for 48 months. He was ordered to pay restitution of $1,533.05, pay a fine of $3,000.00, and complete 50 hours of community service. He was further ordered to abide by all state and federal tax laws.
Information presented in court showed that Williams filed 2007, 2008, and 2009 North Carolina individual income tax returns representing that he had North Carolina income taxes withheld from his wages different than that reported by his employers, Godwin Management Co Inc. and Godwin Cafeteria Inc. The returns caused the state to give him credit for payment of individual income tax withholdings that he was not entitled to receive. Williams’ Uttering Forged Instrument charges resulted from false 2007, 2008, and 2009 Wage and Tax Statements.
The charges against Williams resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
