Feb 21, 2014

RALEIGH – A Shelby return preparer was arrested Friday on three felony tax charges and one misdemeanor tax charge filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Louis D. Banner, 41, of 215 Merit Drive, Shelby, was charged on February 17, 2014 with three counts of Aid or Assist in the Preparation and Filing of Fraudulent North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns, and one count of Willful Failure to File a North Carolina Income Tax Return.

The arrest warrants allege that Banner, a tax return preparer at Jeuniques’ Taxes in Shelby, N.C, aided or assisted in the preparation and filing of three North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns for the tax years 2006, 2007 and 2010. An additional warrant alleges that Banner failed to file his 2011 North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return.

Banner appeared before a Cleveland County magistrate and was placed under a $25,000 bond. A first court appearance is scheduled for February 24, 2014 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.

The charges against Banner resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
