The Department conducts free seminars/webinars and participates in speaking engagements to proactively inform participants of their state tax responsibilities. Request a speaker for your group or find the seminar/webinar(s) listed below that best fits your needs and register today!

Thank you for your interest in having a speaker from NCDOR at your upcoming event. The Department currently uses face-to-face and/or virtual formats to deliver presentations. Your organization will need the technology to support virtual presentations, if requested.

NCDOR currently participates in speaking engagements that have ten or more attendees. The Department will need a minimum of 30 days notice.

Please complete all requested data fields on the Speaker Request Form. A representative from the Department will contact you within three business days regarding your request.

General Business Tax Seminars

This seminar will cover the basic requirements to help NC businesses understand the laws and obligations necessary to be a tax compliant business. Participants will learn about filing and administrative requirements, the basics of NC sales and use tax law, and the basics of NC withholding tax law in addition to receiving directions for completing sales tax and withholding returns and for filing and paying online.

This seminar provides an introduction to the services and resources offered by state and federal agencies when someone is thinking about starting a business in NC. Participating agencies include the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the North Carolina Department of Revenue (NCDOR), Business Link North Carolina (BLNC) and the Small Business Center Network (SNCN).

This seminar covers business formation and registration requirements by state and federal agencies for someone starting a business in NC. Participating agencies include the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the North Carolina Department of Revenue (NCDOR), the North Carolina Secretary of State (SOS), and Business Link North Carolina (BLNC).

Individual Income Tax Seminars

This seminar provides an overview of the individual income tax return for the 2025 tax year to help individuals who live or work in North Carolina understand basic individual income tax law and the North Carolina individual income tax return.

Participants will learn who is required to pay estimated taxes, when estimated tax payments are due, and how to file and pay estimated tax payments. This seminar will include presenters from the IRS and NCDOR.

Participants will learn who is required to pay estimated taxes, when estimated tax payments are due, and how to file and pay estimated tax payments. In addition, participants will learn how to use the NCDOR income tax estimator and how to adjust their NC-4 for withholding if applicable.

Sales & Use Tax Seminars

This seminar will help participants better understand their sales and use tax obligations with NCDOR.  Participants will receive instructions on how to prepare a sales and use tax return in addition to learning about sales and use tax basics, the most common types of sales and use taxes collected, and how to register for an account in order to remit sales and use tax.  Sales and use tax law changes regarding capital improvements and repair, maintenance, and installation services will not be addressed in any depth during this seminar.  If you have questions regarding this tax law change, please call our toll free number 1-877-252-3052.

This seminar will help qualifying nonprofits better understand the proper procedure for requesting a sales and use tax refund (reference G.S. 105-164.14(b) for more information about this tax law). Participants will focus on the process for completing the Nonprofit and Governmental Entity Claim for Refund of State and County Sales and Use Taxes.

This seminar will help nonprofit entities better understand their sales and use tax obligations with NCDOR. The seminar will cover purchases and sales in general by nonprofits, how to apply for a sales and use tax account ID, if necessary, as well as how to apply for a sales and use tax refund account ID if you are a qualifying nonprofit (reference G.S. 105-164.14(b) for more information about this tax law).

This seminar will assist online sellers that are “engaged in business” in North Carolina. Areas of discussion within the seminar will include: sellers with a physical presence in NC, remote sales to NC, marketplace facilitators and marketplace sellers as well as applying for a NC Sales and Use Tax Account ID, if necessary.

Withholding Tax Seminars

This seminar will help participants better understand their withholding tax obligations with NCDOR. Participants will receive instructions on how to file and when to file a withholding tax return in addition to learning about the basics of state withholding taxes, how to register for an account in order to remit withholding tax, and when State withholding is required for employees and other types of compensation.

This seminar covers withholding requirements and procedures for electronic submission of the NC-3 annual reconciliation form and supporting documents through the eNC3 application portal on the Department of Revenue's website.

This IRS and NCDOR joint seminar will cover the W-4/NC-4 withholding forms for a new employee and provide resources for calculating withholding and for understanding withholding obligations for both the employer and the individual at the federal and state level.
