Durham County Attorney Pleads Guilty To State Tax Charges

Raleigh

RALEIGH – A Durham County attorney pleaded guilty Wednesday in Wake County District Court to tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Tiffany Lynne Ashhurst-King, 42, of 1300 Laurel Springs Drive, Apartment 1307, Durham, North Carolina, pleaded guilty on September 9, 2015 to four counts of Willful Failure to File a North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return.

Wake County District Court Judge Vartan A. Davidian, III sentenced Ashhurst-King to a 45-day prison term. The sentence was suspended and Ashhurst-King was placed on unsupervised probation for 18 months. Ashhurst-King paid $3,174.00 in restitution at the time of her plea, and was also ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and complete 50 hours of community service work.

Information presented in court showed that Ashhurst-King, a North Carolina licensed attorney and a resident of Durham County, failed to file a North Carolina Individual Income Tax Return for tax years 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

The charges against Ashhurst-King resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
