Alamance County Couple Charged in State Tax Case

RALEIGH – An Alamance County couple was arrested Monday on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Bobby Dean Workman, 50, and Amy Jo Foote Workman, 48, of 1818 Broadway Drive in Graham, North Carolina, were each charged on August 17, 2015 with one count of Embezzlement of State Property and one count of Embezzlement of County Property.

Arrest warrants allege that Bobby Workman, a corporate officer of Mediachurch, Inc. and Amy Workman, bookkeeper of Mediachurch, Inc., aided and abetted the corporation to embezzle, misapply and convert to its own use $27,610.51 in state and county sales tax during the period April 1, 2009 through September 20, 2014.  During this period of time, Bobby Workman held the position of President and Amy Workman held the position of bookkeeper and were the responsible persons of Mediachurch, Inc., which was under a duty to collect, hold in trust, and remit North Carolina State Taxes to the North Carolina Department of Revenue. 

The Workmans appeared before a Wake County magistrate and each was placed under a $15,000 secured bond.  Their first appearances are scheduled for August 18, 2015 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh. 

The charges against the Workmans resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
