Buncombe County Business Woman Charged in State Tax Case

RALEIGH – A Buncombe County business owner was arrested Monday on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Alina K. Rippy, 36, of 50 Country Walk Lane in Sanford, North Carolina, was charged on January 12, 2015 with two counts of Embezzlement of State Property.

Arrest warrants allege that Rippy, President and Managing Member of Nana’s Assisted Living Facility, LLC aided and abetted the company to embezzle, misapply and convert to its own use $20,748.27 in North Carolina Withholding Tax during the period April 1, 2013 through July 15, 2014. During this period of time, Rippy held the position of President and was the responsible person of Nana’s Assisted Living Facility, LLC, which was under a duty to collect, hold in trust, and remit North Carolina State Taxes to the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Rippy appeared before a Buncombe County magistrate and was placed under a written promise to appear. A first appearance is scheduled for February 6, 2015 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.

The charges against Rippy resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Hickory.
